Production Supervisor Role

The Production Supervisor is a member of the plant leadership team and plays a key role in providing management and leadership to deliver business results and operational improvements. Under the direction of the Facility Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day manufacturing operations for an assigned area and shift.

This role has the responsibility to achieve productivity, efficiency, customer service, cost, quality, safety, and employee engagement objectives through both individual and team contributions. Provides direction, leadership, development and support to direct reports through empowerment, teamwork, on-the-job assignments and continuous improvement projects and initiatives. Develops, implements and promotes safety programs and safe work practices through involvement in plant safety teams, programs and initiatives.



  • Supervise activities of Production staff.
  • Directs and coordinates activities associated with the department or shift production, including scheduling adequate staff to operate the line.
  • Supervise all plant safety rules and regulations and provide safety orientation and training.
  • Document yearly performance reviews on employees.
  • Document incident, disciplinary action, accident/injury reports when needed.
  • Assist in developing job procedures.
  • Inspect material for quality defects.
  • Work with the HR Generalist to staff the production line with full-time employees as needed.
  • Assist in the training of new team members. Develop a training plan for all production positions and ensure that employees are trained properly in any area that they are assigned


Education: High School diploma is required. A four-year college or technical degree preferred

Experience: Requires a minimum of 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment or supervisory role 

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define the problem, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with others.
  • Able to understand broad direction on goals and objectives and accomplish the same.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Possess a working knowledge of shop math and basic engineering and business calculations.
  • Able to deal with mid-management or executive level contacts.
